Hy2green stands for energy from natural energy sources such as wind, sun or hydropower stored in hydrogen. It means energy is stored without any emissions and with natural raw materials. Our Hy2green system turns locally produced electricity from renewables into hydrogen and stores it very stably and safely long-term in metal powder. USING GREEN ENERGY SUSTAINABLY AND SAFELY

Energy savings and local energy production from natural energy sources such as the sun, wind or water are at the center of reducing CO2 in the production and supply of energy. However, the generation of sustainable energy does not always meet the actual demand – the sun, wind and water are often not available in sufficient quantities and continue to make it necessary for the end consumer to purchase expensive electricity from the grid.

Generate energy locally and store without loss

Hy2green storage is the ideal solution to store locally generated energy for a long time without any loss and to access the available resources when needed.

Store in summer, use in winter. Particularly long energy storage

Hydrogen can be stored for a particularly long time in metal hydride. The storage system ensures energy security and enables the building to have a self-sufficient energy supply for the application.

Use heat and electricity sustainably, emission-free

The Hy2green system provides electricity and heat. This increases the overall energy efficiency of the system without any harmful emissions.

The safest way to store hydrogen in a compact manner

The metal powder-based Hy2green storage system is significantly safer and smaller than other hydrogen energy storage systems.

HOW THE HY2GREEN STORAGE SYSTEM WORKS

Hydrogen is generated from electrical energy by means of electrolysis and fed into storage tanks filled with metal powder. Here, the hydrogen enter into the metal structure and remains as a safe and stable compound – which is known as metal hydride. This compound can be released again by simply adjusting the pressure and temperature. The released hydrogen is fed into a fuel cell and converted back into electricity and heat. The only residues are oxygen and water – natural elements and no environmental pollution!

The integrated heat management system captures the conversion energy that is lost as heat and makes it available to the application’s heat cycle. This significantly increases the energy efficiency of the entire system.

The result: An efficient zero emission electrical and thermal power system.

FROM PILOT PROJECT TO MARKET-READY TECHNOLOGY

With the opening of the Knappenhaus project in 2019, the Hy2Green storage system has now taken the step from pilot project to serial operation mode under the toughest everyday conditions in the South Tyrolean Alps.

Our aspiration is clear: this storage technology will contribute globally to a better use of renewable energy sources and to a high security of energy supply without CO2 emissions, even in remote locations. This is what we are planning to do in the near future:

VARIETY & SIZE

The Hy2Green system covers energy storage ranges from 80 kWh to 66MWh and can be tailored to the application need. Its modular system approach offers a perfect integration of short term (day-night) storage types (e.g. electric batteries, hot water accumulators) enabling highest system flexibility.

APPLICATIONS

Potential applications for Hy2Green systems are reaching from “Back-up power systems” for safety-critical infrastructures to “Green buildings” to “Alternative green drives” for maritime and heavy-duty mobility.
